Proposal for the expansion of a very small brick bungalow in the Benton Park neighborhood of south St. Louis. The house is expanded with a ‘para-building’ that wraps the side and back of the building and sits on a steel structure above the roof of the existing building. The addition contains a new stair, a utility room and half bathroom, and on the upper level a master suite with a glass wall and deck facing the park.

" The addition respects the historic rhythm this type of house creates on the street, an aspect of the design we found very compelling and signaled a unique sense of restraint in the architect’s approach to the project. The architect has demonstrated that, through a modest intervention, both the domestic and urban experience can be improved."
